Economic Development Strategy

Whitehorse Council has adopted the Whitehorse Economic Development Strategy 2008-2013 to help guide the City’s $6 billion local economy over the next five years. chess game

The Strategy builds on the past successes of the Whitehorse Economic Development Strategy 2001-2006. With more than 8000 businesses, about 60,000 jobs and one of the highest levels of economic diversity in Melbourne, the Whitehorse business community plays an important role in shaping the future of our municipality. Council believes that building and maintaining an active and positive partnership with business is vital to ensuring that the Whitehorse community remains vibrant and sustainable.

Even with the highest levels of economic diversity in Melbourne, there are still opportunities to be developed and innovations to be made in working towards the Council Vision of having a regionally significant economy for Whitehorse by 2016.The Strategy aims to help Whitehorse progress towards this vision by providing an overall strategic direction for economic development along with clear practical actions shared across Council departments to help reach these strategic outcomes, particularly in the areas of:

  • retail activity centres;
  • Box Hill Activity Centre;
  • business development;
  • partnerships and networking;
  • communication, events and seminars; and
  • environmental sustainability.

Council would like to thank all the groups who lodged submissions regarding this important Economic Development Strategy.
