Supporting the Business Community

Whitehorse City Council is committed to providing support to local Small to Medium Enterprises (SME’s) and it acknowledges that many SME’s have experienced severe impacts from COVID-19, and that some have been affected since January 2020.

The objectives of the Whitehorse Business Grants Program were to support:

social and economic sustainability
business growth and prosperity
local procurement and facilitating connections
creating business and employment opportunities
industry development
business compliance with State Government guidelines in relation to COVID-19.

Two funding streams were available for the business community, with streams having an overarching focus on business adaption, innovation and resilience.

Round 3 applicants were notified in December 2021 and payments completely by early March 2022. Successful applicants are to expend funding by 31 August 2022 and acquittal report due by 30 September 2022.

Funding Streams: Innovation and Support

Businesses could only apply for one stream, and businesses who had successfully acquitted their funding in round 1 or round 2 were eligible to apply.

Business Innovation

Funding range between $5,000 and $10,000 to support small businesses with costs associated with substantial innovative projects. Businesses applying for the Innovation stream must discuss their project with grant officers on 9262 6453 prior to submission.

Costs associated with substantial innovative projects for example:

Equipment that supports innovation
Introduction of a new service or product
Manufacturing projects

Business Support

Funding range between $1,000 to $3,000 for costs associated with supporting businesses on the road to recovery.

Costs associated with supporting a business to continue to operate for example:

Marketing (excludes subscriptions e.g. social media, google analytics, marketing platforms)
Branding development
Training and professional development
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Supplies (maximum $250)
